John 16 journal
Proverbs of the day - Proverbs 13:10 where there is strife, there is pride. In what areas am I experiencing conflict? How am I being prideful? In John 16, Jesus prophecies that there will be major strife between them and people who claim to follow God, but have too much pride to hear what God is really saying.
John 16
Jesus tells his disciples that they will suffer great persecution. People will kill them and think that they are helping God. He then tells them that he will be going away. Today I really struggled with the question “Why does God allow Satan to deceive and kill and destroy his amazing creation?” I see the some of the deception in my life and in others and it saddens me. My first response is that he will find out who is really searching for him. When I asked this question on my walk tonight, the story of Job came to mind. He had terrible friends and an unbelievably horrible wife, yet he remained faithful to God. Wow, how did he do it? I have great friends and a fantastic wife, yet I can’t seem to stay on track. Jesus’ promise to his disciples in verse 20 was powerful to me “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.” Jesus also reminds me that even though his closest friends abandoned him, he still had peace because he knew his father was with him. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
